1.What is the author's attitude towards actions or events?
The author's attitude towards actions and events in the story is that of intense description of how the situation dangerous was.
2.Is the story humorous or tragic or frightening? Does the author want you to laugh or cry, to feel happy or sad, to experience anger or fear?
The story is frightening as each and every paragraph in the story, the author had been trying to fill the intensity of danger. The author probably want us to feel fearful and frightening as the plot of the story run.
3.What is the author's attitude toward the characters of the narrator?Does the author like or dislike, trust or mistrust the characters or the narrator?
The author's attitude towards the narrator was that of a sort of mistrust as the narrator wan an unstable man. He was not certain whether the narrator would choose to die by a pendulum or die by falling down in the pit.

F.Symbolism

1. What are some of the symbols in the story?
In the story, the pit where the narrator had been jailed represented hell or death because it is very terrify.     The pendulum in the story represents the time. Each swing emphasize the approaching step to death.The rats can prove to be a second chance at life. The rats chew through the bindings on the narrator, freeing him and escaping the pendulum. The narrator is using something viewed as bad to his advantage. Also, the narrator's rescue can also be viewed as a second chance, or "heaven" opposed to the hellish pit.

Yes, they are the pendulum which represents the time that the narrator had left for his survival.

There is no body in the story that represents any symbol. There are only rats who represents the second chance for life.

The aspects of the story's setting do seen symbol as the whole story indicate the despair where there is no way for survival before the narrator see a hope after his own conduct. The events in the story event shows that there was a decision to be made a life decision where the narrator found only the death choices.

Yes the same symbol is used throughout the story.
